5 Customer Opportunities Every Garage Should Track

Most garages already have the customer opportunities they need. The problem is that they are often sitting in job cards, spreadsheets, inboxes or someone's memory. Use these five groups to build a simple daily follow-up routine.

1. Customers who are due or overdue for service

Run a daily list of customers whose next service date has arrived or passed. Prioritise overdue customers first. Record the contact attempt and always give the customer a clear next action.

2. Customers who declined work

A declined recommendation should not disappear when the invoice is closed. Record what was declined, the estimated value and when the customer should be contacted again. A short, useful follow-up can recover work later.

3. Customers approaching NCT/MOT

NCT/MOT creates a predictable reason to contact customers. Build reminders at sensible intervals before the test date and offer a pre-test check where appropriate.

4. Customers who have gone quiet

Create a simple win-back list for customers who have not returned within the timeframe you would normally expect. Segment it by how long they have been absent and make the message useful rather than just promotional.

5. Customers who have just completed a visit

The end of a job is the start of the next relationship touchpoint. Confirm satisfaction, request a review where appropriate, and record the next service or maintenance opportunity while the information is fresh.

The rule worth putting on the wall

Every customer opportunity has a next action. If there is no next action, the opportunity is likely to be forgotten.
